ANN: osgEarth - version 1.2 available

osgEarth 1.2 is now available!

osgEarth is a dynamic terrain-rendering toolkit for OpenSceneGraph. Just create a simple XML file, point it at your imagery and elevation data, load it into your favorite OSG application, and go! osgEarth supports all kinds of data and comes with lots of examples to help you get up and running quickly and easily.

Go to http://osgearth.org for download instructions and documentation.

osgEarth works with a wide variety of data sources:

 * Local files including GeoTIFF, ECW, or other GDAL-supported formats
 * Open web-mapping standards like WMS, WCS, and TMS
 * GIS software like MapServer or ESRI ArcGIS Server
 * Various commercial data providers (with service agreement)

Highlights of osgEarth 1.2:

 * Renders terrain on the fly -- no offline pre-generation required
 * Zero-intergration -- just load a ".earth" file and go
 * Round-earth (geocentric) or flat-earth (projected) terrain
 * Supports multiple image layers using multitexturing and blending
 * Combines multiple elevation layers into a single global heightfield
 * Automatically reprojects source data
 * SpatialReference API -- full geospatial projections support
 * Flexible caching system for running offline or boosting performance
 * EarthManipulator - a new programmable camera manipulator specially designed for terrain
 * VirtualPlanetBuilder compatibility -- mix VPB databases with osgEarth layers
 * Plug-in architecture for adding new data drivers

Visit http://osgearth.org to get started. Thanks for your continued support!
