Application running very slowly

Hi,

I am running my application. It uses a projected earth file and the orthoimagery file is ~22MB in size. I don't know the cause but when I use my keyboard to move the object forward I find a lag in the application. Its as if the application is consuming too many resources. But when I try the exact same app with a .flt model as the terrain, I do not experience any such lag.

I'm using Windows XP, P4 processor, 1GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 6800 card.
For the data, I downloaded NAIP and DEM data from the USGS National Map.

I have set the number of tiles to 400 in my earth file. Could that also contribute ? If I set a lower value of tileNumber like say 24 or 48, the image is much less impressive and so I set a higher value for this.

My worry is, if I need to use a much larger terrain for my application, it might just not run or be too slow at that.

I was hoping to get some insight into this and how I may cure this if possible.

Thank You.

Sincerely,

Sanat.

Re: Application running very slowly

Hi Sanat,

Can you post your .earth file?  I'm not sure what you mean when you
say " I have set the number of tiles to 400 in my earth file"

Thanks,

Jason

Re: Application running very slowly

Sanat,

A tile_size of 400 is why your app is running slowly.  For imagery a good value is 256 and heightfields need to be small like 32 so you don't generate too much geometry.
