Best approach to handle 20,000 files

Hello ,

I have 20,000 heightmap files. what is best strategy to handle this?

I mean shall i create mosaic of few hundreds , then ingest

or shall i make vrt and then mosaic everything and further do tiling

or as it is 20K is ok to load ?

regards,
Jai

Re: Best approach to handle 20,000 files

Jay,

I'd suggest building a VRT and letting GDAL do the mosaicing.  That being said you're probably talking about a lot of data, so expect at least the lower lods to be very very slow to generate.

Re: Best approach to handle 20,000 files

Hello Jason,

I have built VRT but then loading vrt in to osgearth is taking enormous time ?

VRT is virtual mosaic so it needs time to mosaic...

Re: Best approach to handle 20,000 files

I have one more questions .. i have 100 different files heterogeneous  locations... I want to use osgearth_toc also to toggle layers dynamically... what should be the way out as my control panel is occupying all the space ? can we group imagery and elevation?

osgearth_toc does not have the ability to group layers, so you will need to write your own code for this.
