Generate .earth file

Hi,

I would like to generate .earth files that I will use in a BIM software. It seems quite difficult for someone who's not deep into IT to do it with OSGearth (http://docs.osgearth.org/en/latest/startup.html) and I would like to know if there is an easier way to go through this. I just want to get a .earth file and I don't intend to do any geospatial calculations.

Thanks for your help !

Re: Generate .earth file

Hi "thedude",

The Earth File is an XML file that represents a map containing one or more map layers. There are lots of examples of earth files in the git repository's "tests" folder. If you can provide more details on exactly what you are trying to achieve, we can give more specific guidance.

Re: Generate .earth file

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I'm currently working on a BIM viewer (no dev, just "playing" with it; BIM = Building Information Modelling). I got CityGML files from a specific city in France (Lyon) and would like to add .earth files to improve visualization. Thus, I'm wondering if it is possible to easily generate earth files of a specific location on earth.

Re: Generate .earth file

thedude,

There is a user here named "ago" who works on an osgEarth application called SxEarth.  It might be a good way to play with some data before you jump into development.  We do not have any affiliation with Sxsim, but when you are ready for development, we do offer professional support services to help with your own development efforts.

Here is the last post:

osgEarth Editor SXEarth 3.6.1 released!

Re: Generate .earth file

I do not.  I only know he posts when he releases a new version and the last was in September.  I would contact him with your concerns or run it on a sandboxed machine,   Otherwise, the getting started document and searching the mailing list will get you most answers to the basics.
