RFC: How would a C++11 requirement affect you?

Friends,

As we move forward with the new osgEarth 3.x baseline, we are looking into a couple new baseline requirements. One is C++11. Why? Because several of the dependencies that osgEarth relies upon now require C++11 support in their latest versions, including GDAL, GEOS, and tinyGLTF.

We should note that the biggest hurdle has been RHEL6 support. RHEL6 ships with gcc 4.4 which does not (fully) support the C++11 standard. Workarounds do exist -- it's possible to build executables and shared objects on a gcc 8.2 system that will deploy and run on RHEL6.

So, we would like to hear from YOU -- should osgEarth have a C++11 requirement?

Moving forward it would probably be best to do so.

We have fully switched to RHEL/CentOS 7 now so C++11 works fine for us.
