RFC: Plans for osgEarth 2.10

Friends,

Soon we hope to finalize osgEarth 2.10. This is the culmination of the master branch, where the major focus has been on transitioning to a new default terrain engine ("rex") and support GL3/GLCORE profiles as robustly as possible.

Other changes include compatibility with the OSG 3.6.x release, the end of integrated Qt support in accordance with the externalization of osgQt from OSG, and removal of old, unused, and deprecated classes.

Feel free to examine the "210prep" branch on GitHub, which has updated release notes.

In the meantime if you have any final requests, comments, questions, etc. regarding this release, now if the time to speak up!

Re: RFC: Plans for osgEarth 2.10

I've tested latest master with OSG 3.6.3 on MacOSX Core Profile, mp-engine. Issues found:

Re: RFC: Plans for osgEarth 2.10

HI Glenn ,

is there some change in API for elevation too because using new version m not able to visualize elevation properly even in perspective view. Also tiles load very late with much narrow fov??

Re: RFC: Plans for osgEarth 2.10

Sounds like you have a bad build.  Try osg 3.6 and make sure you have all the osg deps you need like png built.

the latest osgearth code, attenuation_range is able to configure the image layer, which was previously the property of the terrain.

Range_factor is another property of the terrain, hopefully it can be configured into the image layer as well, thanks

Splat.earth contains a local tif file that is recommended to be added to the data directory. If the tif file is too large, it can be converted to low resolution.

ago,
Correct, attentuation_range is now a per-layer property.

min_range cannot be a per-layer property because it controls the LOD range of the tile's actual geometry, so cannot be applied to an individual layer.

Re: RFC: Plans for osgEarth 2.10

There will be a problem in actual use, Range_factor default value of 7.0, suitable for geographic coordinate system without projection image, but not suitable for Mercator, ground display is very fuzzy. It would be nice if there were lod offse in the image layer.
