Rendering an ImageOverlay on top of a FeatureNode

I've had some success managing the render order of ImageOverlays by setting the RenderingHint/BinNumber, but I'm having difficulty replicating that feat with FeatureNodes thrown into the mix. It seems like no matter what I do, the FeatureNode is always drawn on top of the ImageOverlay. Are these two handled differently when it comes to render order? If so, is there some way I can force the ImageOverlay to be drawn on top?

No. An ImageOverlay is a texture projected on to the terrain surface. As such it is essentially part of the terrain, and any other geometry (FeatureNode included) will render on top of it.
