XYZ driver fails to process .png files.

I am using SIMDIS 10.0 and trying to read a tile set from our tile server using the following segment of an .earth file. This works fine with tile sets that are jpg files, but fails if they are stored as png files. In the console of SIMDIS, I see the request gets a return value of 200, meaning the requested image was downloaded, but then I get an osgEarth error saying the JPEG Image read/write failed to read the image. Any hints on how to get this to work would be greatly appreciated.
