when airport models and terrain overlap, the draw time drops a lot

An airport model made of openflight format was added to the terrain. However, when the airport model and the terrain overlap during the flight, the draw time drops a lot. What should I do in this case?

Best guess is that the complexity of the airport model is adding to the draw time. Overlapping geometry would not likely be causing a slowdown.
